The Bosnian Serb entity Republika Srpska (RS) is holding a presidential election to choose a successor to Milorad Dodik, who was removed from office earlier this year amid a political crisis. Sinisa Karan, a former interior minister and close ally of Dodik from the SNSD, is the favored candidate against Branko Blanusa, an opposition candidate running on an anti-corruption platform from the SDS. Despite Dodik stepping down after being sentenced for disobeying the international High Representative, he remains a powerful figure endorsing Karan while the election aims to determine RS governance for one year until the general elections in 2026.
