Airports and Airlines Ask EU to Allow Targeted Pauses of Entry-Exit System

The European Commission is permitting targeted, temporary suspensions of the Entry-Exit System at specific entry points but is refusing broad exemptions as airports and airlines press to pause checks during the July-August peak.ACI Europe reported peak queues reaching up to five hours and the head of Berlin Airport warned of two-hour waits for non-EU nationals, while airlines said planes departed with empty seats as travellers missed flights.Frontex expects the Entry-Exit System to stabilise as infrastructure and procedures mature over the next couple of years, and the European Commission pledged more operational support and consultations with the aviation sector.
