Airport and airline associations are urging the European Commission to allow airports to pause the Entry/Exit System because biometric checks are producing queues up to five hours, causing flight delays and missed connections.Airports Council International Europe, Airlines for Europe and the International Air Transport Association say border control facilities, especially at smaller airports, cannot handle current passenger volumes and expect roughly 40M more travelers in July and August, worsening disruption.The groups call for an operational flexibility mechanism by September, immediate staffing increases, stable IT support and an EU-wide pre-registration app, while the World Travel & Tourism Council warns delays could cost up to $45.4B in visitor spending if travelers are deterred.
