José Caballero became the first Major League Baseball player to use the Automated Ball-Strike challenge system during a regular-season game between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants. The shortstop unsuccessfully contested a strike call from pitcher Logan Webb after twelve Hawk-Eye cameras confirmed the original decision by home plate umpire Bill Miller.Following years of minor league testing, the new system grants teams two challenges per game which are only retained if the video replay overturns the field ruling.
