Victor Willis, Village People Singer, Dies at 74; Co‑wrote 'Y.M.C.A.' Rejoined After Rights Win

Victor Willis, the lead singer and co-founder of the Village People, dies at 74 after a brief, aggressive illness, his wife Karen Huff-Willis and the band say on Facebook.Willis co-wrote and sang the group's biggest hits, including "Y.M.C.A.", "Go West" and "In The Navy", and he is remembered for performing as the troupe's policeman and naval officer.He left Village People in the early 1980s, won legal claims to several songs and rejoined the group in 2017 after protracted litigation over royalties.The band released a new single, "DISCO STAR," last month, and Village People drew renewed attention when they performed during the pre-program for Donald Trump’s inauguration, a use Willis later addressed.
