White House Historical Association Buys Norman Rockwell Sketches for $7.25M and Opens Display

The White House Historical Association acquires four Norman Rockwell sketches for $7.25M and mounts them at The People's House with an artificial intelligence interactive. The 1940s panels, commissioned by Franklin D. Roosevelt's press secretary Stephen Early and titled “So You Want to See the President!”, show senators, military personnel, press members and 1941 Miss America Rosemary LaPlanche waiting in the West Wing; researchers identify Senator Thomas Connally, Senator Warren Austin and Eloise English Davies of the Navy women's reserve program. The sketches left public view after a family ownership dispute following Stephen Early's death; the association says it bought them to prevent private acquisition, calls the payment its largest ever and plans to display the work through June next year.
