Howard University interim president Wayne A. I. Frederick says more than 200 of 502 freshmen who were unenrolled for the fall have been readmitted after protests by students and parents. The unenrollments followed outstanding tuition balances remaining after financial aid and scholarships were applied and unreported immunizations; the university says it had notified families of payment obligations since March and set a mid-July deadline.Howard officials began meeting individually with affected students and parents, reversing many cases and reinstating students including
Keana Johnson, a 17-year-old living in a New York shelter; about 2,200 first-year students remain enrolled after the process.
