Claudia Tenney Pushes CANADA Act to Force Trade Probe as Provincial Bans Crush US Alcohol Exports

Claudia Tenney introduces the Combating Attacks on our National Alcoholic Drinks by Allies Act to compel United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to open a Section 301 probe of Canadian provincial bans on American beer, wine and spirits within 30 days. The provincial measures followed tariffs and inflammatory rhetoric from former President Donald Trump and have sent U.S. alcohol exports to Canada from $460M to $103M between 2024 and 2025, with a Distilled Spirits Council of the United States report showing a second-quarter plunge to below $10M.Industry groups including WineAmerica and the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States back the bill, but Tenney and other lawmakers acknowledge the CANADA Act could escalate trade friction and complicate renewal talks over CUSMA if provinces do not lift bans.
