EU Member States Approve Tariff Pact with US, 15% Duty on Most EU Exports, US Industrial Tariffs

EU member states approve a tariff agreement with the US that imposes a 15% duty on most EU exports and removes remaining EU tariffs on US industrial goods, allowing the pact to take effect before the July 4 deadline set by President Donald Trump. The regulations create tariff quotas and preferential access for selected US seafood and agricultural products, extend a suspension on lobster duties retroactive to August 1, 2025, and give the European Commission power to suspend the pact if the US breaches commitments or if President Donald Trump does not remove 50% steel and aluminum surcharges by year-end.The measure follows earlier European Parliament approval after delays caused by parliamentary interruptions, legal rulings in US courts and White House threats; the rules take effect one day after publication in the EU journal and cover trade flows that totaled €1.7T in 2025.
