Hilaria Baldwin says she began dieting at age 5 and spent decades battling anorexia, bulimia and cycles of overeating and undereating, at times fearing the calories in everyday products such as toothpaste. She says the disorders strained relationships, made dining out and social life fraught, and left her feeling broken before she pursued intensive personal work, credits yoga and wellness for part of her recovery and now prioritizes fostering a healthy relationship with food for her seven children with Alec Baldwin.Clinicians warn that eating disorders often start in childhood — about 14M people worldwide experience them each year, including 3M children and adolescents — and experts urge parents and schools to shift conversations toward nourishment and strength and to use the National Eating Disorders Association and the National Alliance for Eating Disorders helplines for support.
