Trump Sanctions Rwanda's Army for Supporting M23 Rebels in Congo

Donald Trump and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced sanctions against the Rwanda Defence Force and four senior officers, including Vincent Nyakarundi, for providing military support to M23 rebels.The move follows the failure of a peace deal brokered by Donald Trump in December between Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi as M23 continues to capture territory.While the government of Felix Tshisekedi thanked the US, Rwandan officials called the sanctions unjust and a misrepresentation of the security coordination they maintain to counter Hutu militias.
