Chris Evert Announces Ovarian Cancer Recurrence, Undergoes Surgery and Will Begin Chemotherapy

Chris Evert announces that her ovarian cancer has returned after CT and PET scans; she has already had surgery and will begin chemotherapy, and she will withdraw from Wimbledon coverage to focus on treatment.The 71-year-old former world No. 1 and 18-time Grand Slam singles champion says she will step back from other professional duties and remain in Florida with her medical team during therapy.Evert was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021, carries the BRCA1 gene mutation and previously underwent preventive surgeries including a hysterectomy and a double mastectomy after her sister Jeanne Evert Dubin died of the disease.Netflix will release "Chris & Martina: The Final Set" about her rivalry and cancer battles with Martina Navratilova, and ESPN, colleagues and fans have expressed support while the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance notes about 70% of ovarian cancers recur.
