WHO Declares End of Hantavirus Outbreak Linked to MV Hondius

The World Health Organization and Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus say the hantavirus outbreak linked to the cruise ship MV Hondius is over after the last exposed person completed quarantine and tested negative.The cluster involved 13 confirmed cases, three deaths and more than 650 contacts traced in 33 countries; two deaths occurred on board and one person died after disembarking in South Africa.WHO says the virus is the Andes strain, noted for rare human-to-human transmission, and that a 21-country study will map transmission while a sample goes to WHO laboratories in Switzerland to aid diagnostics, treatments and vaccines.
