NASA Artemis II Crew Surpasses Apollo 13 Record Following Historic Lunar Flyby and Space Journey

Reid Wiseman and the Artemis II crew have broken the long-standing distance record set by Apollo 13 during a flight to the far side of the moon.The Orion spacecraft will reach a maximum distance of about 406,000 kilometers from Earth while passing as close as 6,500 kilometers to the lunar surface.During the historic flyby the crew is documenting geological features and impact craters to provide data for future manned surface landings.Following the lunar encounter the mission will conclude with a parachute-assisted splashdown in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego later this week.
