Representative Steny Hoyer of Maryland announced he will retire at the end of his current term after serving over forty years in the House of Representatives.The 86-year-old Democrat, who survived a mild stroke in 2024, confirmed his decision during a floor speech following years as Majority Leader and Whip.Throughout his career, Hoyer collaborated closely with Nancy Pelosi on landmark legislation and authored the 1990 Americans With Disabilities Act.
