Judge Jeffrey Karp acquitted former North Andover police officer Kelsey Fitzsimmons of assault with a dangerous weapon during a bench trial in Essex Superior Court.Prosecutors alleged Fitzsimmons attempted to shoot fellow officer Patrick Noonan while he served a restraining order, but the defense argued she was actually attempting suicide.Although Noonan shot Fitzsimmons in the chest following the confrontation, the judge ruled that the prosecution failed to prove she intended to harm anyone other than herself.
