Juvenile Gray Whale Found Dead in a Washington River as Species Population Hits Fifty Year Lows

A juvenile gray whale was found dead near Raymond after swimming twenty miles up the Willapa River in Washington during its migration to Alaska.Biologist John Calambokidis linked the event to a food crisis in Arctic feeding grounds that has reduced the species population to thirteen thousand individuals.The death follows a five year mortality period that saw nearly seven hundred whale strandings along the Pacific Coast from Mexico to Alaska.
