Artemis II Crew Sets New Human Distance Record and Names Lunar Crater During Historic Moon Flyby

Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen set a new human spaceflight distance record of 406,773 kilometers from Earth during the Artemis II mission.The crew reached this milestone while orbiting the far side of the moon, where they also named an unnamed crater Carroll to honor the late wife of the commander.During the lunar flyby, the astronauts captured thousands of images of the surface and witnessed a total solar eclipse while testing life support systems.NASA and the US Department of Defense are preparing for the Orion capsule to splash down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego following a high-speed reentry.
