Prime Minister Mark Carney announces a national design competition and a Rideau Hall Foundation-led crowdfunding campaign to restore 24 Sussex Drive, uninhabitable since 2015.The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada will advise the competition and an independent jury will choose a Canadian design-and-build team, with a winner to be named on Canada Day next year; hazardous materials were removed in 2024.Donations will be capped, accepted only from individuals and philanthropic entities and publicly disclosed, and officials say the project will likely cost more than C$100M while the National Capital Commission had estimated about $37M in 2022.
