Ryanair Ends Parent Seat Fee After Regulator Probe, Will Assign Free Family Seats After Check-in

Ryanair will seat adults traveling with children aged two to eleven next to their children for free, allocating family seats after check-in, usually toward the rear of the aircraft. The change follows an inquiry by the Competition and Markets Authority into a previous rule that required parents to pay about £8 each way to reserve a family seat while up to four children could be held by a single paid reservation.Michael O'Leary calls the adjustment reluctant and criticizes the Competition and Markets Authority, while Rory Boland of Which? Travel says the consumer group will monitor whether families are genuinely seated together without extra cost.Ryanair says the move is revenue-neutral, families may still pay to guarantee front seats, and the Competition and Markets Authority will assess whether the updated terms and information comply with consumer law after noting Italy has banned the fee.
