Portugal and Austria Secure UN Security Council Seats as Germany Suffers Defeat in General Vote

Portugal and Austria have secured two-year terms on the UN Security Council after defeating Germany in a vote.The General Assembly election saw the winners surpass the required two-thirds majority during a secret ballot.Germany failed to obtain a seat despite its extensive history on the body, losing to its European counterparts.These five incoming members will replace the outgoing nations on the council starting January 1, 2027.
