FBI and Department of Homeland Security Probe Video of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Shooting

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security inspector general are jointly investigating after new social media video shows Lorenzo Salgado Araujo face down with officers after he was shot following a traffic incident in north Houston.Immigration and Customs Enforcement says an officer fired in self-defense after Salgado Araujo allegedly rammed an enforcement vehicle and attempted to use his work van as a weapon, but the family and civil rights groups dispute that account and demand an independent inquiry and the release of all footage.Immigration and Customs Enforcement has acknowledged a shift toward vehicle-based arrests and less training on vehicle pursuits while arrest rates have nearly doubled under the mass-deportation campaign of President Donald Trump, and advocates say there have been at least 16 vehicle-related Immigration and Customs Enforcement shootings since Donald Trump took office with four fatalities.
