Senegal President Bassirou Diomaye Faye signed a law passed by the National Assembly doubling prison sentences for homosexual acts to ten years.The legislation, which also criminalizes the promotion and financing of such acts, was condemned by United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.This move follows a campaign promise by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and occurs alongside a surge in arrests within the predominantly Muslim nation.Fines for unnatural acts were increased to ten million CFA francs as the state intensifies its crackdown on organizations supporting sexual minorities.
