Handgun Fired at US Consulate in Toronto; Police Seek Two Men

Police say at least one handgun was fired multiple times at the US consulate in downtown Toronto around 4:30 a.m.; shell casings were recovered, the alarm was not raised for about an hour, and investigators released images of a white Honda CR-V believed to have carried two men who fled after shooting.Toronto Police Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police describe the attack as a national security matter and say reinforced glass and walls prevented bullets from penetrating the building so there are no reported injuries while officers comb the scene for ballistic evidence and review video.Federal investigators are working with the FBI, the State Department and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, and officials have increased security at the Israeli consulate in Toronto and at embassies in Ottawa as police appeal for dashcam footage from drivers in the area.Officials are probing possible links to three recent synagogue shootings in the greater Toronto area and to an improvised explosive device thrown at the US Embassy in Oslo, and political leaders including Mark Carney, Doug Ford, Olivia Chow and Pete Hoekstra condemned the attack while cautioning it is too early to determine motive.
