Authorities are investigating a spike in fatalities after the road death toll in Rome reached 114 for the year following several holiday accidents. An 86-year-old woman was killed on Viale Parioli on December 26, shortly after a motorcyclist died in a separate crash on Via Aurelia during Christmas Day. Near Turin, a 21-year-old woman surrendered to police after a hit-and-run collision that killed Claudio Pogliano as he left a midnight mass.The Rome accidents have contributed to a provincial total of over 180 deaths from more than 22,000 recorded traffic incidents throughout 2025.Investigators in the Turin case are pursuing charges of vehicular homicide and failure to render aid against the young driver who fled the scene.
