Conservation Success Following Rare Twin Gorilla Birth in Virunga
Virunga National Park officials announced on Wednesday that a rare set of male twin mountain gorillas born on January 3rd appear healthy and are being closely monitored.The 22-year-old mother, Mafuko, was observed with her offspring in the Bageni family, which has now grown to 59 members and is the largest group in the park.This event marks a significant milestone for the global mountain gorilla population, which remains just over 1,000 individuals across the Democratic Republic of
Congo,
Rwanda, and
Uganda.
