Pairat Soodthoop, the general and financial affairs manager at Wat Rat Prakhong Tham, requested temple staff to open a coffin after hearing faint cries and knocking from inside, revealing that a 65-year-old woman previously declared dead was still alive. The woman, who had been transported about 500 kilometers after being declared dead by her brother and a village chief in Nonthaburi province, was found to have extremely low blood sugar and taken to a hospital, where doctors confirmed she was breathing and conscious but very weak. Wat Rat Prakhong Tham has pledged to cover her medical expenses, and the incident has highlighted the need for more thorough medical verification before declaring individuals dead and organizing funerals.
