Hyundai and Kia will provide free repairs to about 9 million vehicles and install engine immobilizers in all future U.S. models under a nationwide settlement announced by Keith Ellison, after states said the automakers failed to equip many cars with adequate anti-theft technology.The agreement, reached by 35 states including California, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, requires a zinc sleeve hardware fix available at authorized dealerships from early 2026 through early 2027, could cost the companies more than $500 million and includes up to $4.5 million in restitution for victims.
