Zohran Mamdani Becomes New York First Muslim Mayor

Zohran Mamdani is set to be sworn in as the first Muslim and South Asian mayor of New York during a midnight ceremony at a historic disused subway station.The 34-year-old democratic socialist defeated Andrew Cuomo in a high-turnout election after campaigning on progressive platforms including free childcare and public transit.Following the private swearing-in by Letitia James, Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will join a public inauguration on the steps of City Hall.
