Javier Tarazona was released from El Helicoide prison after 1,675 days of detention following an amnesty law announced by acting president Delcy Rodriguez. The release of the Fundaredes director and Italian aid worker Alberto Trentini occurred after the capture of Nicolas Maduro by the USA military. Human rights organizations continue to monitor the status of over 700 remaining political prisoners as the government prepares to convert the detention center into a cultural hub.Javier Tarazona visited a church in central Caracas immediately after his release to celebrate his freedom with his family and supporters. During his first public interview after four years in custody, Javier Tarazona called for judicial reforms and national reconciliation to address years of political instability. Opposition leaders expressed optimism regarding the general amnesty while remaining cautious about the long-term implementation of human rights protections in the country.Alberto Trentini described his 423 days of imprisonment without formal charges as a period where he was treated as a political bargaining chip by authorities. The Italian aid worker was held at the El Rodeo facility before being freed alongside several other prisoners during the recent wave of releases in January and February. Both men highlighted the importance of continued international pressure to ensure the freedom of all remaining individuals currently held for political reasons.
