Yoon Suk Yeol Appeals Life Sentence Following Korean Insurrection

Yoon Suk Yeol appealed his life sentence for insurrection after the court ruled his 2024 martial law decree was an illegal attempt to paralyze the legislature.The court also sentenced former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and other security officials, while Yoon Suk Yeol's wife, Kim Keon-hee, received 20 months for bribery.Prosecutors had sought the death penalty for the former president, but the court chose life imprisonment as South Korea has not executed anyone since 1997.
