Yoon Suk Yeol Sentenced to Life for South Korean Insurrection
Yoon Suk Yeol was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of leading an illegal insurrection during a failed martial law attempt in December 2024.Judge Ji Gwi-yeon ruled that the former leader deployed military and police forces to paralyze the National Assembly and arrest political rivals like Lee Jae-myung.The court also sentenced former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun to thirty years and former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to twenty-three years for their involvement.Although prosecutors requested the death penalty, the judge cited a lack of casualties during the six-hour military blockade as the reason for the life sentence.
