National Trust Criticized for Beach Eyesore After Defense Removal

Residents and officials are condemning the National Trust for creating a "horrific eyesore" at Studland’s Middle Beach after the removal of sea defenses exposed a massive historical rubbish tip.The "managed retreat" policy implemented in September has caused rapid coastal erosion, washing asbestos sheeting and waste from a Victorian toilet block onto the shore once frequented by Enid Blyton.Local volunteers are conducting daily clean-up operations while the National Trust admits it underestimated the amount of waste but maintains that removing artificial structures will eventually allow the beach to replenish naturally.
