US District Judge
Cameron McGowan Currie dismissed criminal indictments against
James Comey and
Letitia James because
Lindsey Halligan's appointment as acting US Attorney was ruled unlawful.
The indictments, covering alleged offenses such as false statements under oath and bank fraud, were dismissed without prejudice, but legal time limits have already expired for many charges. The DOJ intends to appeal, while Comey and James both deny wrongdoing and claim the prosecution was politically motivated by Donald Trump, as supported by statements from Karoline Leavitt and references to decisions by Erik Siebert and Pam Bondi.
