The humanitarian and economic crisis in Gaza has worsened as severe flooding from recent winter rains damaged or destroyed at least 13,000 tents sheltering over two million displaced Palestinians. Aid workers and residents, including Reham al-Hilu and Jalal Ayyad, report shelters inundated with water, lost supplies, and heightened health risks despite UN efforts and ongoing Israeli restrictions on aid delivery. According to a recent UNCTAD report, Gaza’s economy and infrastructure have nearly collapsed in the wake of conflict, with the blockade following Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attack and recent fighting leaving over 69,700 Palestinians dead, 170,863 injured, and more than 2.3 million below the poverty line.
