The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) officially ceased operations after a unique emergency aid mission that delivered over 187 million meals to Gaza, amid ongoing conflict triggered by the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks. GHF faced strong criticism from the UN and approximately 170 international organizations for contributing to chaotic distribution conditions that resulted in hundreds of aid seekers dying at or near its sites, and
Hamas welcomed the closure while demanding investigations.
John Acree, GHF’s Executive Director, emphasized the foundation’s role in developing new humanitarian models, and the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) has now assumed responsibility for coordinating Gaza aid efforts among 21 nations and 20 organizations.
