Dutch Cold Snap Sparks Travel Chaos After Sweden Storm

#Amsterdam, #Netherlands
More than 20,000 flights were cancelled and road and rail networks struggled across the Netherlands as a week-long cold snap brought up to 15 centimeters of snow and temperatures near minus 10 degrees Celsius, following severe winter disruption reported earlier in northern Sweden.KLM flew a truck to Germany to secure 100,000 litres of de-icing fluid after supplies ran out, while ProRail and NS reported delays and information-technology issues and cyclists complained that cleared roads contrasted with hazardous, uncleared bike lanes.KNMI and other experts said climate change is making winters rarer but more disruptive when they hit, as Sweden’s SMHI kept a red warning in force in Västernorrland and Sveriges Radio urged residents not to travel because “the risk of becoming stranded is very high.”
