The EU Commission has initiated infringement proceedings against
Slovakia due to a constitutional amendment passed in September that challenges the primacy of EU law.
This amendment grants Slovak authorities power to decide if and when EU decisions, including rulings from the EU Court of Justice, will apply within Slovakia, and it restricts LGBTQ rights by defining marriage as between one man and one woman and allowing only married couples to adopt children.
