The
Berlin State Criminal Police, in collaboration with
Europol, conducted a significant operation resulting in the arrest of 16 individuals across six European countries in connection with "grandchild tricks" and "inheritance scams".
Investigators assert that the arrested suspects, aged between 22 and 63, played various roles in the scams, with four accused of making calls to victims and the remainder acting as money collectors. The operation prevented 44 grandchild trick crimes, avoiding losses exceeding 2 million euros.
