A Sydney judge sentenced 51-year-old taekwondo instructor Kwang Kyung Yoo to life without the possibility of parole following his guilty plea for the February 2024 murders of a 7-year-old student and the child’s parents.Ian Harrison told the New South Wales Supreme Court that Yoo’s culpability was so extreme and driven by jealousy of the family’s financial success that only a whole-life term would satisfy retribution, punishment, community protection and deterrence.Court material showed Yoo planned the attacks at his Lion’s Taekwondo academy, made no effort to hide the killings, had no prior criminal record and submitted a letter describing himself as “held captive by sin.”
