The EU reached an agreement on a new climate target, aiming for a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 compared to 1990 levels, a deal finalized by EU member states and the European Parliament.This agreement, representing a softening of the European Commission's initial proposal, allows up to 5% of the 2040 reduction to be met through international climate credits starting in 2036 and postpones the inclusion of fuels into ETS2 for building and transport to 2028.
