Kathy Hochul Proposes ICE Ban After Columbia Student's Detention

Governor Kathy Hochul proposed a law to ban ICE and DHS agents from schools and dorms after the arrest of Elmina Aghayeva at Columbia University.Federal officials denied using fake police badges or missing person flyers, stating the student visa of Elmina Aghayeva was terminated in 2016 during the administration of Barack Obama.Representative Jerry Nadler and Micah Lasher joined Acting President Claire Shipman in condemning the tactics used to enter the campus residential building.This conflict occurs as the university works to restore $400M in federal grants that were previously canceled by the administration of Donald Trump.
