Federal prosecutors in the
USA have charged
Mathew Ho,
Brian Curtis Raymond,
Tony Li, and
Harry Chen with illegally smuggling advanced
Nvidia GPUs and Hewlett Packard Enterprise supercomputers to
China and
Hong Kong.
They used a front company called Janford Realtor, LLC to facilitate the exports without the required Commerce Department licenses, routing shipments through Malaysia and Thailand. The defendants face up to 20 years in prison, and the case highlights concerns about China’s ambitions in AI and supercomputing linked to potential military modernization.
