Houston Prosecutors Seek Evidence as ICE Promises Body Cameras After Fatal Shooting

Local prosecutors have asked the FBI to transfer control of parts of the evidence so county investigators can review surveillance footage and witness statements in the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. The three passengers detained after the shooting remain at the Montgomery Processing Center and their attorney says ICE pressured them to sign self-deportation papers while they were held.Witnesses and their attorney Hugo Balderas-Ibarra say an ICE officer shot Salgado Araujo through a passenger window and that no agent stood in front of the vehicle, contradicting ICE's claim that Salgado Araujo tried to ram an enforcement vehicle, and no body-camera video exists because officers were not wearing cameras.Acting ICE director David Venturella pledged that ICE will equip all field officers with body cameras by the end of the month and apologized for releasing Salgado Araujo's name before notifying his family as federal investigations proceed.
