Germany and Deutsche Welle say the listing aims to stifle independent journalism after Russia added Deutsche Welle to its official list of "undesirable organisations".The justice ministry placed DW on the list after lawmaker Vasily Piskaryov's announcement; under a 2015 law cooperation or sharing DW content can bring fines or up to six years in prison, and Director General Barbara Massing condemned the move and vowed to continue independent reporting while the German government, through spokesman Stefan Kornelius, criticized Moscow.
