US District Judge
Jia Cobb ruled that former President
Donald Trump's deployment of over 2,300
National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. was illegal and violated federal law.
The troops were sent under the Secretary of the Army's command to patrol the National Mall and assist local law enforcement amid a surge in federal crime. Judge Cobb blocked further deployments temporarily to allow an appeal, highlighting that the deployment exceeded legal authority and harmed the District's sovereignty and local economy.
