US District Judge
Jia Cobb ruled that former President
Donald Trump's deployment of over 2,300
National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. was illegal and violated federal law.
The troops had been deployed under the Secretary of the Army's command to patrol the National Mall and assist local law enforcement amid a federal crime surge. Judge Cobb temporarily blocked further deployments and issued a 21-day stay on the order to withdraw the Guard to allow the Trump administration an appeal, postponing the ruling until December 11.
