Hideyo Hanazumi, Governor of Niigata Prefecture, confirmed support for a partial restart of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant, the world's largest, which aims to resume operations after the 2011 Fukushima disaster. The restart plan includes reactors No. 6 and No. 7 and requires approval from the Niigata government assembly as a step before Japan's nuclear regulatory authority grants final authorization. This would mark the first nuclear operation resumption for Tokyo Electric Power Company since the Fukushima meltdown forced a large evacuation due to radiation leaks.
