The Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) has finalized a £500 million acquisition deal for The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph. The UK government passed legislation restricting foreign ownership of British media assets, which blocked RedBird IMI's ownership and allowed DMGT to comply with regulations by excluding foreign state ownership. DMGT Chairman Lord Rothermere praised The Daily Telegraph as Britain’s largest broadsheet and said the acquisition will help grow the Telegraph as a global brand similar to the Daily Mail.
