José María Balcázar Sworn in as Peru's Ninth President Since 2016

José María Balcázar has been sworn in as the interim president of Peru after Congress removed José Jerí from office for corruption and moral incapacity.The 83-year-old former magistrate defeated Maricarmen Alva in a parliamentary vote and will lead the country until general elections are held on April 12.Despite criticism over past comments on child marriage, José María Balcázar pledged to maintain economic stability and said pardoning Pedro Castillo is not a priority.
